Garmin Approach S3 for the jet set golfer

UPDATE: I’ve posted a Garmin Approach S3 review and resource page.

Okay, it’s not as stylish as a Rolex, but if you like to hit the links on those frequent overseas jaunts, the new Garmin Approach S3 may be for you. With 27,000 preloaded courses around the world, the S3 has its eyes on a more mobile crowd than the S1, which limits you to a paltry 17,500 courses in the US and Canada. read more

Garmin eTrex 10 review

Hands on review of the Garmin eTrex 10

The Garmin eTrex 10 is Garmin’s new entry-level unit in the recently updated eTrex series. It offers paperless geocaching, GPS+GLONASS and advanced track navigation, but has a monochrome screen, limited memory and cannot accept detailed maps (although you can see your track and waypoints, as pictured above).

Garmin BaseCamp video tutorials

Garmin’s BaseCamp program is powerful but it can be confusing to new users. Fortunately, Garmin has posted a series of video tutorials covering most of the basics. Garmin Edge 200 review

Garmin Edge 200

Hands on with the Garmin Edge 200

Before I got into GPS I used cyclometers to tell me how far I had gone on my mountain bike, which was very helpful when a trail description said something like “watch for hidden trail on left after 3.2 miles!” They worked surprisingly well, although dealing with wires, strapping a magnet to the spokes and calibrating the whole setup was way too complex. Fortunately there’s a new kid in town, bringing GPS accuracy and new features without the need for wires, magnets or calibration. It’s the Garmin Edge 200, an entry-level GPS cyclometer from the company that has previously focused on higher-end cycling devices.

New data fields coming to Garmin handhelds?

New Garmin data fieldsA recent beta firmware update for the Garmin Montana series brought twenty new data field options to the device, as well as data field categories. You can see four of the new data fields in the screenshot above. The Vertical Distance to Destination is sure to be a hit for the peak baggers among us. Hopefully these will make it to other models as well.
