Garmin nuvi 1250T

Garmin-nuvi-1250T-review UPDATEThis model has been discontinued. For current recommendations, please refer to our auto GPS buyers guide.

The Garmin nüvi 1250T is a special edition nuvi, adding lifetime traffic to the more common nuvi 1250. An entry-level model in  a line of Garmin GPS navigators introduced in 2009 (here is a list of more recent nuvi introductions), the 1250T has a 3.5” screen. All of the new units in the 1200, 1300 and 1400 series come with customizable data fields and the ability to utilize the pedestrian and mass transit features of Garmin’s CityXplorer maps. They also have text-to-speech, so you’ll hear “drive one-half mile, then turn left on Elm Street,” instead of just “drive one-half mile, then turn left.”

Garmin Edge 800

Garmin-Edge-800

The Garmin Edge 800 is Garmin’s latest cycling GPS, updating recent models with a touchscreen interface, and the ability to load Garmin custom maps and BirdsEye imagery. Having used both touch screen and traditional devices extensively on my mountain bike though, I’ve come to prefer the ones with buttons. It’s just easier to change screens on the fly – you quickly learn which buttons to press, so you can do this without taking your eyes off the road or trail.

Garmin Forerunner 210

Garmin Forerunner 210 reviewThe Garmin Forerunner 210 is a new mid-range sportswatch that adds some features to the entry-level Forerunner 110, including added pace functionality. The 210 also retains the small size of its younger brother, and uses the same button-driven interface, avoiding the touch bezel often complained about on the 405 series.

Garmin nuvi 265W

Garmin nuvi 265W review

UPDATE: The nuvi 2×5 series has been officially discontinued. For current recommendations, see our auto GPS buyers guide.

The Garmin nüvi 265W is one of the second-generation models in the nuvi 2×5 series, which I dubbed the "best entry level GPS on the market." This series offers more mid-line features though; in addition to everything that made the 2×5 series a hit, the 265W adds Bluetooth for hands-free cell phone use. It includes pre-loaded maps of the U.S. and Canada, has a 4.3" wide touch-screen and comes with text-to-speech, so you’ll hear "drive one-half mile, then turn left on Oak Street," instead of just "drive one-half mile, then turn left."
