Garmin-nuvi-3790LMT

UPDATE: I now have pages up for both the Garmin nuvi 3760LMT and the nuvi 3790LMT.

Like the super-thin nuvi 37xx series, but want lifetime maps? Well Garmin has you covered. Without any fanfare, these two new models have crept onto the scene and are beginning to hit store shelves, just in time for the holiday shopping season. Here’s the links:

TomTom XL 335SE–Black Friday star?

TomTom XL 335SE

UPDATE: I’ve confirmed that the XL 335SE is exclusive to Walmart, Walmart Canada and Walmart.com.

Walmart has let their Black Friday ad leak, and they have a special edition navigator in the line up, the TomTom XL 335SE for $79 (that link goes to a refurbished one, though they should have new ones up by sometime next week). They will also have the TomTom EASE for $59, but since that one is better known, I want to focus on what to expect with the XL 335SE.

Navigon MobileNavigator for Android review

Here’s a brief video review of Navigon’s MobileNavigator Android app:

Magellan drops NAVTEQ maps for Tele Atlas

Magellan-Tele-AtlasI started hearing rumors about this a few months ago, and today we have confirmation; Magellan portable navigation devices (and apparently apps too) are switching from NAVTEQ maps to Tele Atlas. The Tele Atlas agreement covers other MiTAC owned brands as well – Mio and Navman. It remains to be seen how smoothly the switchover will go, as some early concerns have been posted at GpsPasSion by a few Maggie owners who received the new maps in a recent update.

Garmin nuvi 1250T

Garmin-nuvi-1250T-review UPDATEThis model has been discontinued. For current recommendations, please refer to our auto GPS buyers guide.

The Garmin nüvi 1250T is a special edition nuvi, adding lifetime traffic to the more common nuvi 1250. An entry-level model in  a line of Garmin GPS navigators introduced in 2009 (here is a list of more recent nuvi introductions), the 1250T has a 3.5” screen. All of the new units in the 1200, 1300 and 1400 series come with customizable data fields and the ability to utilize the pedestrian and mass transit features of Garmin’s CityXplorer maps. They also have text-to-speech, so you’ll hear “drive one-half mile, then turn left on Elm Street,” instead of just “drive one-half mile, then turn left.”

DeLorme Earthmate PN-60w review

DeLorme Earthmate PN-60wThe Delorme Earthmate PN-60w updates the PN-40 with improved battery life, expanded internal memory, activities (similar to Garmin’s profiles) and the ability to link wirelessly to other PN-60w’s and the SPOT Satellite Communicator. Power management is one of the biggest improvements, as short battery life was a common complaint about the PN-40.
