The Garmin nüvi 50 is a 5” ultra-wide screen navigator in Garmin’s new 2012 Essential series. The models in this series are meant to be basic navigators at a budget price, lower than what we’ve previously seen for Garmin entry-level models. Nevertheless, they do come with some features not previously found on low-end nuvis, such as speed limit display, assist and junction view.

The full line up of the Garmin nuvi Prestige series has hit vendors’ shelves, bringing us Garmin’s first foray into HD Traffic (3490LMT only) and loads of other goodies. The Prestige series offers a resistive capacitive touchscreen with pinch to zoom, and all the features found in the recently introduced Advanced series. Here’s where you can find them:

The Garmin nüvi 40LM is a 4.3” navigator in Garmin’s new 2012 Essential series. The models in this series are meant to be basic navigators at a budget price, lower than what we’ve previously seen for Garmin entry-level models. Nevertheless, they do come with some features not previously found on low-end nuvis, such as speed limit display, lane assist and junction view. And the 40LM includes lifetime map updates.

I’ve received a Garmin nuvi 2495LMT, the newly available top of the line 4.3” model in their 2012 Advanced series, and have been busy delving into it ever since. It’s actually a bit overwhelming; there are quite a few changes in menus, features and appearance. I’ll try to go over some of the more significant ones in this post.
